Undergraduate Program

The Department of Asian and Asian American Studies houses interrelated programs: Asian American and Diaspora Studies, Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies and South Asian Studies.

The department provides a number of BA-degree granting majors for students to choose from:

  1. Major in Asian and Asian American Studies, which consists of four distinct tracks, (1) Asian American and Diaspora Studies, (2) Asian Specialization, (3) Asian Comparative, and (4) South Asia 
  2. Major in Chinese Studies
  3. Major in Japanese Studies
  4. Major in Korean Studies
  5. A combined program (AAAS/MPA), which allows student to complete both a BA and MA in five years

In addition, minors are offered in Asian and Asian American Studies, Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies, and Korean Studies. 

Many of the department’s courses are cross-listed with other departments, allowing students to fulfill credit requirements across a variety of academic disciplines. Additionally, most Asian and Asian American Studies courses fulfill Binghamton University General Education requirements.
