MAJORS AND MINORS

BA Degree and Undergraduate Specializations

Our department is flexible and allows you to tailor your studies according to your interests. For undergraduate majors pursuing a BA degree in Asian and Asian American Studies, four specialization tracks are available:

The major, regardless of track, requires eleven (11) courses, at least six (6) of which must be at the 300- or 400-level.

All majors, regardless of track, must fulfill the three (3) common major core course requirements grouped in the following manner:

All students must complete the core AAAS Major Seminar (AAAS 496)

In addition, students must complete courses required by the particular track they have chosen, as well as Asian and Asian American studies elective courses.

DAAAS majors may elect no more than one (1) independent study, and not more than one (1) internship and/or teaching practicum may be counted toward the major. Students may elect to take one course Pass/Fail. DAAAS views the grade of D as passing but is considered unsatisfactory and unacceptable in fulfilling the major requirements.

Summary of Major Requirements

The Asian and Asian American Studies major requires eleven (11) courses. At least six (6) must be at the 300 or 400 level.
