Approximately 5 days after we receive application, you will receive from Binghamton University a B-Number and User ID via email. Once you receive your B-Number and User ID, activate your password. You must do this before you can successfully check the status of your application.  

FRESHMEN: Students from outside the U.S. must submit official transcripts from all secondary schools attended. If the transcripts are not in English, official translations should also be submitted.

Students who have completed work at a U.S. high school may obtain an unofficial transcript from a school counselor and report results online using the  SOAR (SUNY Online Academic Record). Once admitted, you must send an official transcript from your high school for verification.

TRANSFERS: Students should submit official transcript(s) from all colleges or universities attended. Students who have earned less than 24 college credits at the time of application will need to submit official secondary school transcripts. If the transcripts are not in English, translations should also be submitted.

Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) results are required for international students who will graduate from a U.S. high school or a high school outside the United States where the primary language of instruction is English.

Freshman international applicants studying outside the United States are strongly encouraged to submit results from the SAT or ACT exam. Test results should be sent electronically from CollegeBoard or ACT. The Binghamton University School Code for SAT is 2535 and ACT is 2956.

Transfer students who have completed more than 24 college credits are not required to submit results from the SAT exam.

Proof of English proficiency is required for international students whose first language is not English. The English proficiency requirement can be satisfied in the following circumstances:

• Transfer students who at the time of application have completed two semesters of English (non-ESL) courses at a U.S. college/university with grades of B or better; OR

• Students who have earned a degree from any university/college where English is the primary language of instruction; OR

• Students who a have the minimum test scores as listed in the chart below: 

Binghamton's TOEFL School Code is 2535.

International applicants (freshmen and transfer) with English proficiency results below the minimum requirements listed above may be offered conditional admission with an ESL requirement. 

The ESL requirement may include one or more of the following:

• Attendance at Binghamton’s five-week summer Academic Success Program (ASP) prior to enrolling for the fall semester. The ASP program assists students with English language development and provides up to six credits applicable to the student’s degree program. There is an additional cost for program participation.

• Completion of the English Placement exam during orientation. This is a diagnostic exam testing students in listening, reading and writing. If results of this examination indicate that the student would benefit from additional English language support, the student will be required to take a minimum of one ESL course during the fall semester. ESL courses can be taken along with other university courses and do not require any additional cost. 

International students planning to attend with an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to submit proof of financial support. An I-20 or DS-2019 form will not be issued until a verification of funds to cover the first year of study has been received. Students should submit the following to meet this requirement:

• International Student Financial Statement containing the signature of any relevant sponsors.

• Official bank statement(s) verifying adequate available funds to cover student expenses. Please submit English translation if necessary.   

The I-20 or DS-2019 form will be issued by the office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) once a student has been admitted and has submitted financial support documents. Financial aid is not available to international applicants.
