I never fully appreciated the chicken dance until I went to Africa. During my junior year of college, I studied abroad in Ghana for five months. I didn’t speak the local village’s language, but that didn’t stop me from bonding with the children. As I started acting out the chicken dance, their eyes widened, and you could hear their laughs for miles. I would catch them humming the song for the rest of my time there.
Before traveling to Africa, I had never been on a plane. Study abroad affords you the opportunity to extend your experiences beyond the classroom and travel to places that would normally be difficult to visit – like Africa. The focus on study abroad is strong at Binghamton University.
I loved Africa, but part of the reason I love being an admissions counselor at Binghamton University is I don’t have to go far to meet people from different backgrounds. Our students are diverse and it’s one of the reasons Binghamton University is a premier public university.
