RIPIC WINS 2010 TOURNAMENT TITLE

Binghamton University Alumni Association Bowling Tournament

Jeffrey Ripic '08 (at right of photo with Steve Seepersaud, tournament director) won the first-ever Binghamton University Alumni Association Bowling Tournament, taking home a first prize of $500.  This event offered a $10,000 jackpot if a bowler rolled a perfect game of 300 in the final round.  However, none of the four finalists took home that prize.

Almost 50 bowlers competed in the event, held on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Midway Lanes in Vestal, N.Y.  Binghamton University alumni and current students accounted for nearly half the tournament roster.  A little more than 30 bowlers had pre-registered for the tournament.  However, the field really filled in when about 15 bowlers signed up just one hour before the event began.  Because of the overwhelmingly positive turnout, the tournament committee was able to put more money into the prize fund.

Ripic, a Professional Bowlers Association champion and owner of the Ballcellar Pro Shop at Sunset Lanes in Kirkwood, N.Y., led the tournament from start to finish.  He rolled a 289 in the first game, and had the highest total after the three-game qualifying round.

James Manwarren, Tony Shuba '94, and Jim Thomas qualified second, third, and fourth, respectively and advanced to a single-game elimination stepladder final.  Shuba defeated Thomas 214-183, then ousted Manwarren 213-177.  Ripic held off Shuba 184-150 to win the title.
