David R. Segal '62 was appointed by President Barack Obama to the Selective Service Board for the State of Maryland. He is Distinguished Scholar-Teacher, Professor of Sociology, and director of the Center for Research on Military Organization at the University of Maryland.
William Luis '71 was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for the 2012-13 academic year. He is the Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Professor of Spanish at Vanderbilt University. He has held teaching positions at Dartmouth College, Yale University, Washington University in St. Louis and Binghamton University. Luis has published 13 books and more than 100 scholarly articles.
Seth Kaufman '85 wrote his first novel, The King of Pain (Sukuma Books, 2012). The book centers around Rick Salter, the mind behind an outrageous reality TV show about torture. He wakes up one Saturday morning to find himself trapped underneath his gigantic home entertainment system with no idea how he got there. Salter has 48 long hours ahead of him until his housekeeper can come to his rescue and nothing to pass the time except pain, bad memories and a strange book he finds lying beside him. Kaufman has been a reporter for the New York Post Page Six and the editorial director of TV Guide.com. His work has appeared in The New York Times, New York Observer, Daily News (New York) and elsewhere.
Lorrie Ann Clemo, MA '87, PhD '88, is provost and vice president for academic affairs at the State University of New York College at Oswego. As the college's chief academic officer, Clemo is responsible for leadership in all academic programs. She was interim provost and vice president for academic affairs for two years.
Sally (Sarah) McGraw '98, creator of the daily style and body image blog Already Pretty, released her debut book, Already Pretty: Learning to Love Your Body by Learning to Dress It Well (CreateSpace, 2012).
