From Binghamton to Uganda

Binghamton University students don't look at the world to see what it can give them. Rather, they examine it to find ways they can make it better.

This year, Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton — The Campaign for Binghamton University chronicles some of these stories in the Binghamton University Foundation's Annual Report.

Among the stories you'll see in the report::
• The Harpur Fellow who traveled to Uganda to teach the marketable skill of sewing to civil war victims who were kidnapped as children — the boys forced into service as soldiers, the girls as prostitutes.
• The mechanical engineering student who listened to families with special-needs children so she could design custom objects, like a catapult to throw a ball, so the children could play.
• The nursing student who made house calls in the poorest neighborhoods of the Dominican Republic, an experience he says he'll carry with him the rest of his life.
• The CCPA students spending countless hours working with local schools to identify children with problems that affect schoolwork and getting them the help they need to stay on track.
