Think Binghamton advocacy update - tuition plan request
Our objective is to remind policymakers that Binghamton University:
• provides an affordable, world-class education to high-caliber students from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds;
• has an internationally renowned faculty who bring their spirit of inquiry and discovery into the classroom; and
• conducts cutting-edge research that leads to new insights, new technologies and new jobs.
This year, we will also ask legislators to support Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s budget request for SUNY campuses to more easily enter into public-private partnerships and to reform procurement legislation. In addition, we will ask for their support for a five-year tuition plan that is fair, predictable and responsible. Our students and their families need to be able to plan for the cost of their college education without worrying about the “tuition roulette” they have come to fear each time the state deals with budget deficits.
We will also share our concerns about the proposed reduction to SUNY’s operating aid. Coming on the heels of three consecutive years of cuts, further reductions in operating aid represent a challenge to our ability to provide a world-class education that is accessible to all qualified students at a reasonable price.
Over the next few weeks, we will reach out to University advocates, asking for their help in advancing these initiatives.
