Update from Think Binghamton
During the coming months, we will be working on several key University initiatives, including advocating for adequate support for SUNY in the 2010-11 state budget and passage of legislation eliminating some of the excessive red tape governing higher education in New York.
Earlier
this month, we shared good news with our supporters regarding Gov. David A.
Paterson’s announcement of the Public
Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act. This
legislation will unleash the power of the State University of New York and
allow it to reinvigorate the economy through innovation and job creation. If you have not had a chance yet, read President
DeFleur’s message to University supporters describing this legislation and
the profound impact it can have on SUNY and Binghamton University.
Our ambitious “Think Green. Think Global. Think Binghamton” agenda is poised to take advantage of these new opportunities and will provide an integrated vision for the development of the University over the next several years. Our plan will make Binghamton a catalyst of a vibrant, high-tech and growing state economy. The effect on the area and the state will be transformative: an additional $170 million annual impact on Greater Binghamton and an additional $231.6 million annual impact on New York state, for totals of $920 million and $1.23 billion, respectively.
You can find out more about the SUNY legislation, our Think Green. Think Global. Think Binghamton plan and what our plan means for alumni by visiting our newly re-designed Think Binghamton website. At the site, you can also join our advocacy group, the “Think Tank” -- our network of thousands of University supporters committed to helping Binghamton University advance as an institution. Through simple and effective advocacy efforts, including e-mail campaigns to legislators and decision-makers, Think Tank members make their voices heard.
Your support will be particularly important in the coming months as we advocate for adequate state support and work toward passing regulatory reform for SUNY. We look forward to working with you. Together we can make a difference.
