ALUMNI GATHERINGS

Binghamton University Alumni in LondonBinghamton University alumni based in London got together on June 15, for an unofficial reunion at the Hilton London Euston. Pictured from left to right are Todd S. Lituchy '89, Wendy (Wolf) Bainham '75 and Madelyn J. (Cohen) Travis '87.

The 41st Bunn Hill Memorial Run (BHMR) took place June 26; the approximately 7-mile race starts and finishes on campus at the West Gym and includes the infamous trek up Bunn Hill Road.

Harpur Colleage alumni, many of whom were members of the late-60s and early-70s cross-country and track & field varsity teams, return for this annual event. Bill Barker '68 -- now Isaac Henry Wing Professor of Mathematics at Bowdoin College -- started the race in 1969 when he returned to campus for a visit and enlisted a couple of his Harpur cross-country teammates to run one of the team’s most infamous workout courses, Bunn Hill Road. Barker came back the following five years to run the course on his own. In 1975, Barker contacted former Harpur cross-country and track runner Gabe Yankowitz '71, who, at that time, was a professional staff member and residence hall director at Binghamton, and suggested they contact former teammates to run the course for “old time's sake.”

The first year, Barker, Yankowitz, Charlie Collier '69, Roger Knight '75, Gary Wallace '73 and Steve Appel '72 participated. They enjoyed the run so much that they decided to do it again the following year and the group has been running the course annually ever since. Over the years, other teammates including Bill Schecter '68, Bob "Flash" Fellman '69 and assorted friends and family have joined in the tradition. Anyone who participates in the race more than once becomes an official “Bunn Hiller”. With the vigor, brotherhood and dedication of the Bunn Hillers, there is no finish line in sight for this great tradition.
