TOP STORY - 5K Run honors alumna
More than 150 runners took part in the Kristen Faust Inspirational 5K Run, which was held on Sunday, Oct. 19, as part of Homecoming 2008. The event raised money for the Kristen Faust Memorial Fund, which annually provides a scholarship to a Binghamton University senior who expresses a strong commitment to social work and counseling.
The race is in memory of Kristen Faust '00, who died unexpectedly in 2006. Faust was a two-sport athlete at Binghamton, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and worked as a senior counselor. At the time of her death, she was training for a marathon in memory of her father.
"I think [Kristen] would be a little embarrassed that we're making such a big deal of it," said Jen Hapgood, assistant director of Residential Life. "But, I think she'd be honored that we'd do such a thing. Kristen always cared about everyone before herself. I hope Kristen's memory will go on, and we'll continue for many years to raise money for this scholarship."
The male and female overall winners, respectively, were Alex DeLaney and Katie Redzik. The master winners were Simon Richardson and Heather Doyle.
