Class of '84 celebrates 25th anniversary

By Tina Paknejad '10

Friends from the Class of 1984 picked up right where they left off, refusing to skip a beat after 25 years of not seeing one another. The group held a reunion during Homecoming weekend with, among other things, a special tailgate party and Saturday night reception. Many class members shared a sense of overwhelming excitement to be on campus after the many transformations it has gone through,  especially alongside missed companions.

Class of 1984 reunion“It's interesting to see how much has changed, as well as how much just hasn't changed,” said Robin Portman '84, who caught up with dorm-mate Wendy Berger '84.  “It makes you realize how long 25 years are.”

The reunion officially began with an early arrivals gathering on Friday evening, in conjunction with the all-alumni wine and cheese reception outside the Events Center.

Class members got together at the Saturday tailgate party, then held an after-party at the Events Center following the men's soccer game.  Edgar Levy '84 helped coordinate the reunion.

“We had a group of people that worked really hard at pulling this together,” Levy said. “It is really gratifying to see this whole thing come together and to see a big turn-out.”

Class of 1984 reunionMindy Rosenthal '84 (second from right in photo), another volunteer coordinator, went through more than 500 phone numbers and emails to contact her college friends who had gone astray.

“What made me want to come home is, my friends are going to laugh at me when I say this, but, I got sick last year,” Rosenthal said. “It made me re-evaluate my life, and I realized one of the things that I really, really wanted to do was see everybody from college. So, I called everyone I knew.”

“Binghamton holds a very precious place in my heart,” she continued. “My best friends in the world are the people I met here, the people who I love more than anybody else in the world, except for my family. I stayed connected with a couple, but now I am reconnecting with a bunch.”

“It'll only last tonight!” a friend shouted, causing the entire table to burst into laughter.
