Thousands return; millions raised
As the campus buzzes with thousands of eager freshmen and returning students, we are reminded of why we work so hard to give them the resources they need to achieve great things. As of the end of July, we have raised $92,394,714 towards the $95 million goal of Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton — The Campaign for Binghamton University.
Two alumni recently took the opportunity to pledge $100,000 each, which will impact students' lives for generations. Allan R. Lyons '62 is giving students a leg up on the competition by splitting his pledge between the School of Management's Dean's Excellence Endowment and men's tennis, which captured its fourth-straight conference title in May and continues to receive national accolades in the academic arena.
Jonathan Plasse '72 is supporting a student photography exhibition and a new faculty member in the Harpur College Cinema Department. A former cinema faculty member, Nicholas Ray, director of Rebel without a Cause, King of Kings, Johnny Guitar and many more, is being celebrated on Turner Classic Movies with the release of his final film, which he made with Binghamton University students.
If you plan to come back for Homecoming 2011 (Sept. 23–25), please join us for the unveiling of the new Bearcats statue outside the Events Center as part of Tailgate activities on Saturday, Sept. 24. The Bearcats Statue Initiative raised nearly $150,000 to support student-athlete scholarship funds.
