Presidential search moving forward

The search for Binghamton University's next president continues to move forward with several candidates having been interviewed off campus. When asked about the status of the search, Binghamton University Council Chair Kate Madigan and Council Member James Orband, who are co-chairing the search committee, indicated, "We are very pleased about the outstanding quailty and diversity of the candidates we are considering."
SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher's office noted that "the University Council is in regular communication with the Chancellor's Office regarding the process of the search, and, in keeping with confidentiality requirements, the Chancellor has been informed about the overall quality and diversity of the candidate pool and shares the search committee's enthusiasm."
The Presidential Search Committee was reconstituted in the summer and is working to maintain the confidentiality of candidates who might otherwise not consider applying for the position. Most members of the original committee continue to serve; three new members joined in July.
Patrick Regan, professor of political science, and Zu-yan Chen, professor of Asian and Asian American studies and the director of the Confucius Institute of Chinese Opera, were elected by the faculty to fill two vacancies. James Stehli '88, treasurer of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, will be the alumni representative.
The search committee approved the selection of Russell Reynolds Associates to lead the search. This nationally recognized firm has a proven track record in managing successful presidential searches. President C. Peter Magrath is providing additional guidance to the search process.
