Rebecca Tobin '70 (aka Rebecca Yount) published her debut novel, an e-book titled A Death in C Minor: A Mick Chandra Mystery. This is the first title in a seven-book series about Detective Inspector Mick Chandra of New Scotland Yard. The second title in the series, The Erlking, will be published this fall. Alfred Bendixen '73 edited A Companion to the American Novel (Wiley Blackwell, 2012), a collection of essays on the genre by many of the most distinguished scholars of American literature. His other recent books include A Companion to the American Short Story, co-edited with James Nagel (Wiley-Blackwell, 2010) and The Cambridge Companion to American Travel Writing, co-edited with Judith Hamera (Cambridge University Press, 2009). He is a professor of English at Texas A&M University and executive director of the American Literature Association.
The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) appointed Christopher Walker '86 as executive director of its research division, the International Forum for Democratic Studies, a leading center for the analysis and discussion of the theory and practice of democratic development. Walker came to NED from Freedom House, where he served in its New York office as vice president for strategy and analysis.
Joanna Silver '93 joined Harris Beach as a partner in the firm's New York City office. She advises colleges, universities and other academic entities on a broad range of matters, including academic and college affairs, student and residential life, formation of entities and foundations, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Bryan Ripley Crandall '94 was named director of the Connecticut Writing Project at Fairfield University. His dissertation, A Responsibility to Speak Out: Perspectives on Writing from Black African-Born Males with Limited and Disrupted Formal Education, received an all-university award for outstanding research at Syracuse University in 2012.
James Rausse '98 was elected president of the American Planning Association - New York Metro Chapter and was named to the Council of Directors for the Design Trust for Public Space. He works at the Office of the Bronx Borough President as director of capital programs.
