The end of the fall 2011 semester will be my last at Binghamton. My time here (my second stint, actually) has been deeply gratifying. I’ve had the opportunity to see a new generation of students fulfill their academic potential and pursue their personal and professional dreams. I’ve seen innovative researchers develop the kernel of an idea into lifesaving technologies and intuitive scholars deepen our understanding of society. Recently, and most impressively, I’ve seen the University reach out to our community when devastating floods forced thousands from their homes. Binghamton University is a remarkable place filled with people who are doing amazing things — due in large part to the support provided by the Binghamton University Foundation.
The work of the Foundation is essential to all aspects of the University’s excellence. The funds provided through the Foundation help outstanding students obtain the advantages of a Binghamton education, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances, and help provide educational experiences that give Binghamton students a real advantage as they enter their careers. For example, support from the Foundation is helping nursing students gain valuable — and safe — practice time in the Innovative Practice Center, and giving computer science students the opportunity to participate in — and win — national design programs that will result in safer, more efficient airports. Opportunities like these help Binghamton recruit the best students in New York and beyond, and happen thanks to the efforts of the Binghamton University Foundation.
The Foundation has an impact that extends far beyond the campus gates. It helps Binghamton attract and retain innovative faculty who are transforming the world through their research and teaching. Your support means better teachers for our public schools, better doctors and nurses in our hospitals, better leaders for our businesses, and better and more engaged graduates in our communities.
Donor support empowers the University to do many useful things. I thank everyone who has committed to assisting the University. This support is especially valued as it moves us closer to the successful completion of Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton – The Campaign for Binghamton University. Already, 30,000 individuals have stepped forward in support of the campaign. This is an impressive achievement. The next president of this vibrant University will be as impressed as I am by the work of the Foundation. It’s been an honor — a true privilege — to work with the men and women of the Foundation on behalf of this exciting institution.
Cordially,
C. Peter Magrath, President
