Red Chalk Drawings

New Permanent display, FA 179

For first time all ten red chalk drawings from the museum's Permanent Collection are displayed together. Starting with the earliest one Head of the Virgin, attributed to Pietro de Pietra and dated 1606, these 17th – 18th century drawings introduce the red chalk as a new favorite drawing tool, used by European artists of the time.
