Research Interests:

Psychoneuroimmunology

Dr. Sonnenfeld’s research has centered on the effects of stress on the immune system and resistance to cancer and infection.  This research area is known as psychoneuroimmunology. He has also directed multiple pre-clinical studies and been involved in clinical study development for multiple clinical immunoregulatory agents, including interferon-gamma.  He was one of the first to show that interferon-gamma had immunoregulatory activities.  He has also performed multiple experiments in Space for the NASA US and Russian space programs that have centered on the effects of space flight on the immune system and resistance to infection.
