Program Title:
Bridges to Baccalaureate
Description:
Bridges to Baccalaureate is a National Institutes of Health funded program through which underrepresented minority students at selected community colleges receive special benefits while they pursue their studies in science at the community college. These same students continue to receive benefits when they go on to Binghamton University (BU) to pursue a baccalaureate degree in a biomedical or biomedically-related field.
Programs Offered:
Support offered at community college and later at BU, including:
- Financial support for supplies and educational expenses
- Personal contact with a Bridges advisor/mentor
- Increased access to tutoring
- Lectures and informational sessions with BU faculty
- Guaranteed admission to BU after two years, provided a minimum 2.7 grade point average is maintained in both science courses, and overall
- Two-day, hosted introduction to BU in April
- Five-week, paid ($2,400) summer science research experience at BU
- Customized "Current Events in Science" course in first fall semester at BU
- Guaranteed access to support programs at BU, including: Collegiate Science and Technology Program (C-STEP), Binghamton Success Program (BSP-AMP), McNair Scholarships, Charles Drew, Center for Academic Excellence (CAE), and more
