Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Training Course 

Saturdays and Sundays
June 8 & 9, June 15 & 16, June 29 & 30 (Must attend all sessions)

The Water Safety Instructor course trains instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety courses, six levels of Learn-to-Swim, three levels of Preschool Aquatics and two levels of Parent and Child Aquatics. Prerequisites for the course are: be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course, possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training Certificate issued within the last year, or possess a current national Health and Safety Services Instructor Authorization Certificate, and successfully complete the pre-course session.

Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers & Healthcare Providers Review

An abbreviated CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers course that briefly reviews course information and allows practice of skills before testing. To be eligible to participate in a review course, participants must have successfully completed prior training. Participants MUST bring their current certification card to class for verification. Participants without a current card will not be allowed to write the examination. Certifications are valid for 2 years.

$75.00
Fee includes certification only. No materials are provided.
Participants should bring their own Handbook and breathing barrier to class.

Red Cross Adult CPR/AED Certification

Training combines lecture, interactive video demonstrations featuring emergency scenarios that are likely to occur in a variety of environments and hands-on training to teach participants lifesaving skills. Participants learn how to perform CPR and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults and learn how to use an AED (automatic external defibrillator). Certifications are valid for 2 years.

$60.00
Fee includes copy of Adult Ready Reference Card and certification.

Red Cross First Aid Certification

Participants learn to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies, such as burns, cuts and scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck and back injuries, and heat and cold emergencies. Certifications are valid for 2 years.

Designed for individuals with a duty to respond to emergencies, this program combines discussions, video and hands-on training. Course covers how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. Topics include: Primary assessment, Ventilations,Choking, CPR and use of an AED. Certifications are valid for 2 years.

$95
*Fee includes copy of Handbook, reusable breathing barrier and certification. 30 minute lunch break is included in schedule.

Lifeguard Recertification

An abbreviated Lifeguard Certification course that briefly reviews course information and allows practice of skills and knowledge before testing. To be eligible to participate in a review course, participants must have successfully completed prior training. This training can be verified with an American Red Cross Certificate. Information based on 2010 ECC standards will be included in the course. Recertification will include review of lifeguard skills, CPR/AED for Lifeguards Review and First Aid Review. Lifeguard Certification is valid for 3 years.

Participants MUST bring their current certification cards to class for verification. Course is two days long. Participants must attend both days to earn Lifeguard recertification.

Fee includes three certifications (CPR/AED, FA, Lifeguard). No materials are provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their own Lifeguarding Manual and breathing barrier to class. Participants must be prepared to swim at all class sessions. Please bring swim suit, towel and change of clothes. Lunch break will be provided on day one of course. Participants are encouraged to bring lunch/snacks with them.

Body Weight Blast

This class is packed with ideas to challenge your students using body weight exercises only. Multiple muscles will be targeted with each exercise to achieve maximum results. High intensity cardio intervals will be used to blast calories and strength exercises will include balance challenges to bring the workout to the next level.

AFAA - Primary Group Exercise Certification

For instructors whose training and educational background has prepared them to take the AFAA Primary Group Exercise Certification exam, this course is a review of AFAA's Basic Exercise Standards and Guidelines, anatomy, exercise science, exercise evaluation and exam criteria.   1. In order to participate in a fee-based Specialty Wellness Program, participants must register in advance. No registrations will be taken at the time of the program, or at the program location.
  2. Students, faculty, staff and Rec members MUST have a current University or Rec ID card to enter the Rec center. All others will be issued a card for facility entrance.
  3. Programs are filled on a first come, first served basis. Most programs have a minimum and maximum occupancy. Programs may fill quickly, so please register early. Some programs have a registration date cut off as well. No one will be allowed to register after the cut off date.
  4. No Day Passes or Week Passes are available for these programs.
  5. Parking on campus requires a permit or use of a metered spot.  Parking permits are available at the Rec Center Front Desk or at the Parking Services Information Booth on Bartle Drive.
  6. Individuals must register in person at the Rec Center Front Desk unless otherwise noted. Please call 777-PLAY for more information.
