Boot Camp

Nordic Walking

Nordic walking combines normal walking with core and upper body conditioning to produce a full-body workout. Walking is accompanied by the use of nordic poles, similar to cross country ski poles. 30% more calories can be burned by walking with poles. Plus, the muscles you use are great for your posture-come try it!

Limited to first 15. Poles provided. All fitness levels welcome. Please wear comfortable clothes you can exercise in and athletic footwear. Bring water. Meet in front of the Rec Center.

Zumba Toning®

Zumba Toning® combines body-sculpting exercises and high-energy cardio work with Latin-infused Zumba moves. Participants use lightweight, maraca-like Toning Sticks (or light hand weights) to enhance rhythm and tone all their target zones, including arms, abs, glutes and thighs. Zumba Toning is the perfect way for Zumba enthusiasts to sculpt their bodies naturally while having a total blast. All fitness levels welcome. Please wear comfortable clothes you can exercise in and athletic footwear.

Foam Rolling

Used pre-workout, pre-stretching, or simply to start the day, the foam roller can roll out some serious benefits including easing muscle soreness and tension, correcting muscular imbalances and preventing injuries. This seminar will cover a demonstration on the proper usage of the foam roller. Let's get rolling! Limited to first 15.

Strong Bones, Active Life

Virtual Spin

Escape to an exotic location on your lunch hour! A virtual bike ride is a fun way to get in some activity and "visit" a new area. We provide the stationary bikes and video which is shot from the riders' perspective. While you pedal your own bike, you get the down-the-road experience of actually riding through the terrain and scenery of the location. Bring a friend and take a lunchtime trip! This event is appropriate for all fitness levels, but you must be able to sit on and pedal an indoor bicycle. Dress for exercise. Limited to first 20. Good-bye Low Back Pain!

Research has repeatedly demonstrated that activity can be beneficial in dealing with low back pain. Walking, stretching, strengthening muscle & joints can elevate your mood and put a smile on your face. Even light activity releases "feel good" endorphins. Check with your physician if exercise is right for you, and if so, come "move to improve" with us. All fitness levels welcome. Pickleball - CANCELLED

The Pickleball craze has arrived! Pickleball is a fun racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. It is played on a badminton sized court with a net similar to tennis, only lower,and a wooden paddle and plastic ball. It is an easy game for beginners to learn but can become a life-long recreational pursuit. Join us for a 6-week league. The first four weeks will provide instruction and supervised play. The second two weeks will be open play and small tournaments. Equipment will be provided. It's never too late to learn a new sport! Spaces are limited!

Wellness Workout

Monday - Friday, Feb 11 - May 10 (no class 3/25 - 4/1)

Experience all the benefits of our Group Fitness program in a smaller setting. Wellness Workout participants will take part in a variety of fitness classes each week, offering the best combination of cardiovascular and strength training. This is a great opportunity to learn new exercise styles and for beginners to get more personal attention. Weekly class formats will include: Mondays - Bootcamp, Tuesdays - Zumba, Wednesdays - Yoga, Thursdays - Aqua Aerobics and Fridays - Spinning.

Express Workout

You CAN get a full body workout at lunchtime! Join our Fitness Coordinator for a fast paced, interval style circuit workout. Classes will utilize the Hoist Roc-It equipment as well as interspersed cardio activities. After this energizing workout, you'll have hit every muscle group, gotten a cardio workout and be recharged for a productive afternoon! Fitness can be part of you busy workday.

Register in person at the Rec Center Front Desk. Class size is limited.
$60 for 8 weeks
*Current FitSpace members receive a 20% discount on Express Workout.

 

Yoga for Relaxation

This is a gentle stretch Yoga class for individuals of all levels – either those who are new to yoga or for those wanting a more relaxing experience. Various styles of yoga are incorporated into this class including: Kripalu, Chair, Somatics, Dru, and Viniyoga inspired, as well as an introduction to Level II yoga.  Leave class feeling grounded and relaxed. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.

Register in person at the Rec Center Front Desk. Class size is limited.
$40 for 5 weeks
   

Wellness Refund Policy

Campus Recreation will issue a refund for any wellness class cancelled due to low enrollment. Applications for refunds will only be accepted for documented medical conditions. Refunds may be prorated based on class attendance. Otherwise, no refunds will be issued.


Please Note:

  1. In order to participate in a fee-based Wellness Program, participants must register in advance. No registrations will be taken at the time of the program, or at the program location.
  2. Students, faculty, staff and Rec members MUST have a current University or Rec ID card to enter the Rec center. All others will be issued a card for facility entrance.
  3. Programs are filled on a first come, first served basis. Most programs have a minimum and maximum occupancy. Programs that are popular fill up quickly. Please register early. Also, some programs have a registration date cut off. No one will be allowed to register after the cut off date.
  4. No Day Passes or Week Passes are available for these programs.
  5. Parking on campus requires a permit or use of a metered spot. Parking permits are available at the Rec Center Front Desk or at the Parking Services Information Booth on Bartle Drive.
  6. Individuals must register in person at the Rec Center Front Desk. Please call 777-PLAY for more information.
