Individual Services

 

Personal Training

We have Certified Personal Trainers who can help you achieve your health and fitness goals.

Personal training sessions can be purchased anytime throughout the year. At the time of purchase you will receive a health questionnaire.  Once the questionnaire is completed and returned, the personal trainer will contact you (usually within a week) to schedule your appointment.

Each personal training session is very unique due to the wide array of potential client goals. However, every personal training client will receive information regarding the recommendations for cardiovascular, resistance, and flexibility exercise according to the American College of Sports Medicine. Each session will also include individualized exercise instruction and a personalized exercise program. The purchase of one personal training session entitles you to 90 minutes with a trainer. A six-pack of sessions provides you with a total of 6 ½ hours of personal training.

One session: $15 for students and $25 for all others
Six sessions: $80 for students and $125 for all others

 

Partner Training Sessions

We also offer Partner Training, a program designed to accommodate two people who have similar goals and are interested in working out together! Exercise programs will be designed to meet the needs of both parties.

One session: $10 per person for students and $17 per person for all others
Six sessions: $52 per person for students and $81 per person for all others

 

Fitness Evaluations

Fitness testing is conducted by our certified personal trainers. Evaluations include measures of resting heart rate and blood pressure, cardiovascular and muscular fitness, flexibility, and body composition. The testing and consultation regarding your results will take approximately an hour. Fitness evaluations are a great way to determine your current fitness level and to monitor and record your progress!

$15 for students and $25 for all others

 

Body Composition Testing

Body Composition Testing includes skinfold caliper testing and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Both of these methods are able to have about the same degree of accuracy in predicting body fat percentage when performed according to protocol. More information about testing protocols and pre-test guidelines is available below.

Deluxe Packages

The deluxe package combines one fitness evaluation with either two or six personal training sessions at a discounted price! These great deals provide you with either 3 ½ or 7½ hours of time with a certified personal trainer. Both packages give your personal trainer a better indication of your current fitness level, which will aid in the creation and implementation of a successful individualized exercise program.

Deluxe Package #1 - one Fitness Evaluation & two Personal Training sessions $35 for students and $60 for all others

Deluxe Package #2 - one Fitness Evaluation & six Personal Training sessions $85 for students and $135 for all others

 

Registration

Anyone interested in these services must come to the Recreation Center Front Desk to complete the registration form and Campus Recreation Risk Statement. Upon payment, you will receive a personal health questionnaire, which you must return to the office.  After the questionnaire is completed and returned, it will take approximately five business days to process your questionnaire.

During the Spring 2012 semester, there are a limited number of Personal Training staff members available to provide services. In order to provide a quality experience, those interested in registering for services will be given the staffs’ availability prior to purchasing. Appointments will be limited to staffs’ noted availability only. Thank you for your interest and understanding.

Please Note: Failure to show up for two (2) scheduled appointments will result in forfeit of the service fee. All services must be completed within one (1) calendar year of their purchase date. Gift certificates must be redeemed and all paperwork completed at least 2 weeks prior to their expiration date.

 

Body Composition Testing Protocols and Pretest Guidelines

A number of the services we offer include body composition testing (Fitness Evaluations, Body Comp Testing and Deluxe Packages). All services use both the skinfold method and bio-electrical impedance analysis (BIA).

The Skinfold Method uses calipers to measure the thickness of skinfolds at 3 sites, thereby measuring fat stored just under the skin. A regression equation is used to calculate an estimate of body fat percentage from this information. Skinfold measurement should not be done immediately after exercise.

BIA is a fast and easy method of measuring body fat which involves passing a small, imperceptible electrical current through the body and measuring the impedance to current flow. It is based on the principle that the conductivity of an electrical impulse is greater through lean tissue than through fat tissue. It is best to take BIA body composition readings at a consistent time of day when you are normally hydrated.

Pretest Guidelines

For increased accuracy in body composition testing, please adhere to the following guidelines:

Please be aware the methods used for body composition just provide an estimate. Furthermore, since body fat percentage estimates are influenced by a change in water content in the body throughout the day, please try to be consistent with the time of day that you get tested if you plan to track changes.
