Binghamton University is moving in new directions, as we create original interdisciplinary approaches to scholarship and education, and intensify our focus on research activities.

The Center for Advanced Sensors and Environmental Systems (CASE) brings together experts on sensor and environmental technologies from chemistry, biology, geological and environmental sciences, physics and engineering. The center was established in 2004 as a Binghamton University Organized Research Center. CASE strives to be a national leader in interfacial science and engineering and functional sensing devices and systems as well as a regional economic development hub. Research at CASE emphasizes three areas:

  • Advances in basic sensor research, functional sensing materials, characterization, enhanced signal transduction and laboratory testing.
  • Transformation, engineering and integration of basic sensor designs into functional devices for solving societal problems.
  • Multidisciplinary approaches designed to educate students and foster economic development through collaboration with major national laboratories, the private sector and other research centers.
