Project Description

New York Residents Against Drilling is a Binghamton-based grass roots group of environmental activists who are working to ban natural gas drilling by hydraulic fracturing in our state. We are looking for several interns to do some data collection for us. We are specifically interested in gathering information about the percentage of households in the individual towns in Broome County that have leased land for gas drilling, versus the total population. At this point the information we have is only anecdotal. Our underlying intention is to find out what percentage of the population of Broome County will directly benefit financially from the proposed drilling, versus the rest of the population who will bear the financial burdens that will ensue. The job would entail computer based research as well as direct telephoning of households. Work times are TOTALLY FLEXIBLE
