Project Description

Each Sunday we share a free vegetarian community meal prepared from scratch at the Ritchie Building behind the Lutheran Redeemer Church at 149 Chapin (across from the CVS). The work involved in making the meal happens in two shifts: set-up starts at 10am and runs until 1:30, and clean-up starts at 1:00 and runs until around 2:30-3:00. The tasks involved in cooking are varied, but generally include cleaning and sorting vegetables, cutting and prepping dishes, cooking and baking, and of course eating. We ask that volunteers come with an appetite, and come prepared to eat with someone they've never met before. Talking to strangers is no taboo at Food Not Bombs. The tasks involved in cleaning are also varied, but generally include, scrubbing and cleaning dishes, wiping down surfaces, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning the stovetop, giving away leftovers, taking out the garbage, preserving or taking home any remaining food or raw ingredients. We also ask that folks coming to clean-up come first to eat at 1, and then begin cleaning up after they have eaten. The meal happens every week, and we can always use help. If the timing doesn't work for you, there are also organizational tasks which include weekly food pick-ups.
