Advanced Placement Examination Policy

Because the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Binghamton University doesn't receive Advanced Placement score reports until July, students will probably not receive official University notification about AP credit until after summer orientation. Nevertheless, students may proceed with registration using common sense and the information in this section about the AP policy for CCPA students.

• In other words, estimate the score you expect to earn on your AP exam and select your next course according to the guidelines below. If your official score is above or below your determination, you may change your schedule accordingly at regular registration at the beginning of the semester.

Guiding principles regarding AP credit

• The Advanced Placement credit you will be awarded may not be turned down. If you are awarded Advanced Placement credit for a particular course, you will not receive credit if you repeat the course here.
• Advanced Placement credit may be used to fulfill major requirements unless specifically prohibited in a department's award policy.
• Advanced Placement credit will be listed on your Binghamton University transcript under the heading of "Exam Hours." There is no grade attached to any Advanced Placement credit awarded to you.
• No credit is awarded for scores of 1 or 2.
• AP exam scores yield four credits, unless otherwise noted in the equivalencies.
