Our courses challenge students to think about what it means to "walk a mile" in someone else's shoes, to learn how to communicate with people from many different backgrounds, to develop professional and organizational skills, and to explore opportunities to put their knowledge into practice through service-learning experiences in the community.

I chose to come to Binghamton because of the Human Development program. The programs I applied to at other schools were all psychology. When I was accepted to all of them, I decided that the Human Development major was a big bonus for someone looking to help people with their career. My classes have brought to my attention a lot of social justice issues and careers that I would never have even thought of. I love it!
I am pursuing a master's degree in social work at the School of Social Welfare, University at Albany, and am really enjoying it. As I sit through my classes or have conversations with others, I can't help but think of HDEV and Dr. Wilton. I remember sitting in class and Dr. Wilton would always tell us that the education we receive at Binghamton will help prepare us for the future if we choose to pursue our graduate degrees or enter the work force...and he was right.
As I sit in my classes, I can't help but think about how prepared I am for graduate study. I believe that it has to do with the course material and support that I received as a Human Development major. Before the start of the first semester, I was a little nervous about graduate school and was wondering how challenging it would be. After my first week of classes, I felt very confident that I would do just fine. So I just wanted to say thank you!!
