Through its 50+ programs, Clarkson educates remarkably effective engineers, scientists, health professionals, business people, and creative leaders who easily defy convention and engage ―

What's next."

Clarkson does this by creating an exceptionally demanding, boundary-spanning experience in an entrepreneurial community known for its core values, technology intensive resources, and appreciation of the Adirondack Park that lies just beyond its doorstep. Located in the ―college town‖ of Potsdam, NY with three other universities nearby, Clarkson community members enjoy a constantly changing social and intellectual quality of life largely influenced by proximity to the north slope of the Adirondacks; easy access to Lake Placid as well as two major cities—Ottawa and Montreal, Canada; and a high level of regional camaraderie that encourages innovative partnerships in small business development, arts, tourism, recreation, agriculture, and green energy.

The Position

Reporting directly to the Vice President for University Outreach & Student Affairs, the Director of Counseling & Health is responsible for the overall leadership, vision, and management of the Student Counseling & Health Center in support of the overall personal growth, development, and wellness of Clarkson students, while assuring the Center is in step with current national best practices. Administrative responsibilities include strategic planning; data collection and outcomes assessment; budget management; staff development, supervision, and evaluation; and oversight of the Canton-Potsdam Hospital contract for health services. Direct reports include one assistant director of counseling and two counselors (all licensed mental health counselors), an administrative assistant, and the Director of Health Services who manages the day-to-day operations of the health services side of the Center. Building and maintaining collaborative working relationships between the Center and the Office of the Dean of Students, Student Success Center, other administrative offices, faculty, staff, and students is an ongoing priority for the Director of Counseling & Health.
