Kudos

Our faculty, staff and students in the College of Community and Public Affairs are frequently recognized for their work and accomplishments. Here are some of the most recent kudos they have earned:

Laura Bronstein, chair of the Department of Social Work, has been appointd as a Fellow in the Leadership Academy in Aging's inaugural class--a collaboration between the National Association of Deans and Directors of Social Work and the New York Academy of Medicine. (7/08)

Cassandra Bransford's book, Becoming a Caseworker, was published by Learning Express, Inc., in June 2008. Professor Bransford is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work. Dr. Bransford has been invited to serve with senior research investigators at the Institute for Geriatric Psychiatry, Cornell University Medical College, Westchester Division, to develop an evidence-based relational model for the treatment of depression in home-bound elders. In addition, Professor Bransford will collaborate with researchers from the Center for Mental Health Policy and Services Research, University of Pennsylvania, in investigating a relationally-based protocol for the treatment of depression among elders with Alzheimer's disease. Sunha Choi, assistant professor of social work, attended the 15th RAND Summer Institute (RSI), which was held in Santa Monica, CA between July 7 -July 11. Among applicants, the RSI invited and sponsored qualified scholars working in the field of aging to address critical issues facing our aging population.

Leo Wilton, assistant professor of human development and Africana studies, has been invited to present his research to the National Institutes of Health Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council. He will speak on “The Prevention Research Challenges of HIV Infection in Racial and Ethnic Communities in the United States.” He also was invited by the California Department of Health to present his research on HIV prevention in African-American gay men.
