Faculty media contributions
CCPA faculty – experts in their fields – are called upon by the media to provide perspective and balance to articles and stories that appear in print publications, on the Web and in broadcast reports. Some of the more recent stories they have contributed to include:
- Thomas Sinclair, associate professor and chair of Public Administration, was featured in The Star-Gazette on June 25 for his advice on the possible sale of the Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira, N.Y. Sinclair presented several key elements regarding shared or consolidated services, such as urging trust between the governmental entities, with an emphasis on mutual benefit and efficient consolidation. “When a city makes a decision to sell an asset, the city’s principle objective should be to maximize its financial g ai n,” Sinclair said.
- The Binghamton University College of Community and Public Affairs was featured in U.S. States News on June 4 for conducting a study in conjunction with the Broome County Department of Public Transportation and the Binghamton Metropolitan Transportation Study. The findings of the survey and data analysis performed by the CCPA revealed that most people using BC Transit rely on it heavily for their travel needs, and that Broome County provides a valuable service by operating the transit system.
- M. Sue Crowley, associate professor in human development, was noted in the April 21 issue of The Olean Times Herald for her participation on a panel to discuss school violence. The panel discussion occurred after a performance reading of an off-Broadway play called “Sniper” by Dr. Bonnie Culver. “Sniper” is a fictional tale about a troubled youth who opens fire in his school in 1974.
- Assistant Professor Kristina Lambright is soon to be published in the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management. The citation for her article is Amirkhanyan , A.A., Kim, H.J., & Lambright, K.T. “Does the public sector outperform the nonprofit and forprofit sectors?” Evidence from a national panel study on nursing home quality and access.
- Assistant Professor Yi Lu is soon to be published in Performance Budgeting: the Perspective of State Agencies, Public Budgeting and Finance (forthcoming, 2007 winter issue). She was recently published in GASB Statement No. 34: “The Implication for Reporting and Accountability -The Georgia Experience,” Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting, Financial Management 19 (3), 317-337 (2007 fall).
