2011 Graduate Student Awards Program

 

Each spring, the faculty of the Chemistry department select outstanding graduate students to receive awards based on performance.  The Department is please to announce the recipients of the following awards for the academic year 2010-2011:

Zappert Award - Zhaoyong Sun

American Chemical Society, Binghamton Section
$100.00 scholarship to an outstanding graduating Ph.D. student
Awarded at the annual Section student awards dinner in May.


Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award - Emily A. Obuyu

Chemistry Department
$200.00 to a graduate student demonstrating outstanding teaching abilities.
Picture taken and check awarded at a luncheon for student, director of TA’s, student’s advisor, and Department Chair.


Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award - Fred Wafula

Chemistry Department
$200.00 to a graduate student demonstrating outstanding teaching abilities.

Outstanding Research Assistant Award - Bridgid N. Wanjala

Chemistry Department
$200.00 to a graduate student demonstrating outstanding research accomplishments.

Lois D. Mackey Award - Paul G. Ogutu

Chemistry Department
One-year subscription to the Journal of Chemical Education to an outstanding first-year teaching assistant in general chemistry.


K. Keith Innes Summer Research Grant - Kyle J. LaFever

Chemistry and Physics Departments, Administered through the SUNY Binghamton Foundation
$3,100 to an exceptional graduate student who is not fully funded for summer research using spectroscopy in physical chemistry, chemical physics, or other fields of chemistry in this order of preference.


Clifford E. Myers Summer research Grant - Fredrick Omenya

Chemistry Department, Administered through the SUNY Binghamton Foundation
$3,100 to an exceptional graduate student who is not fully funded for summer research in materials chemistry.


ACS Student Travel Award - Fred W. Wafula

American Chemical Society, Binghamton Section
$200 for presentation at an ACS meeting (national or regional) with preference given to first-time attendees; merit-based.


ACS Student Travel Award - Daniel M. Mutisya

American Chemical Society, Binghamton Section
$200 for presentation at an ACS meeting (national or regional) with preference given to first-time attendees; merit-based.


ACS Student Travel Award - Rameshwori Loukrakpam
