Research Interests:

My research program is aimed mainly at a better understanding of the structure, motions, and chemistry of materials in the solid state through the application of appropriate spectroscopic techniques. His laboratory has gas chromatographic mass spectrometric (GS-MS), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) instrumentation.

Current research is focusing on the nucleophilic reactions of Faujasite zeolites with various adsorbed organic compounds, some of which have environmental or security significance. Additionally, the group is studying the binding to the cage wall of free radical molecules with 2D pulsed EPR and of polar organic molecules by infrared spectroscopy. Recent work focuses on the coordination of cations exchanged into zeolites [3] and on the nucleophilic chemistry that phosponhate esters and alkyl halides undergo with certain zeolites.
