CINEMA
Innovative, Experimental, Creative
Binghamton University’s Cinema Department develops artists and creative thinkers in film, video and theory who are willing to explore the experimental. A strong history of underground and independent production and criticism has made our trailblazing department an antidote to the Hollywood industry model. Our graduates move on to successful careers in a wide range of areas – as independent filmmakers, installation artists with gallery shows, cinematographers, editors, writers and professors.
Majors and minors of the program learn how cinema works – from a social and historical standpoint, to the mechanics of making movies. And the production program in film and electronic media focuses not only on developing a student’s technical proficiency, but also encourages artistic discovery and expression. There are no limits to what your imagination can create. To stimulate our students’ creativity, our award-winning faculty offer a variety of courses and lectures on topics ranging from the technical to the theoretical. Visiting artists and the Harpur Film Society inspire ideas, while our cutting-edge facilities allow students to make them a reality.
