Institute for Student-Centered Learning

The Institute for Student-Centered Learning is a program of the Center for Learning and Teaching at Binghamton University. It brings an awareness of innovative teaching approaches to an ever-broadening network of faculty. In this model for learning, students take a greater role in their own education, as faculty function more as guides to self-directed learning than as instructors. The education of undergraduate students shifts from exclusive reliance on lecture and toward the facilitation of active learning.

Research finds that these approaches are not only efficient, but replicable. It can make courses stand out and become an experience that students will remember as highlights of their time at college. The Institute can help you raise your students to higher levels, making your instructional work more satisfying, both for yourself and for them.

ISCL conference 2012

The 14th ISCL Conference "The Joy of Teaching" will be on May 21-22, 2012 in the Appalachian Collegiate Center (Mountainview).

How do you find joy in teaching? How do your students find joy in learning? Teaching can be rewarding, challenging, exciting, and frustrating. It's an activity which brings out the full range of one's essence and character.

This year's ISCL conference celebrates the joy of teaching. It will give you a chance to build on your strengths, to share success stories and reconnect with why you've taken up this calling. All BU faculty and instructors of record are welcome. Free lunch and refreshments provided both days. Join us in this beautiful on-campus location!
