Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between tutoring appointments and walk in tutoring?
Students may schedule tutoring appointments online through TutorTrac for no more than two (2) hours per week per course for three (3) courses. Walk-in tutoring occurs in residential communities at designated times and does not count toward the weekly maximum of tutoring hours. Refer to this site for walk-in tutoring hours.
- How long are tutoring appointments?
Tutoring sessions are one hour long.
- What courses does CLT provide tutors for?
HERE is a list of courses we currently offer tutoring for.
- Can I schedule a tutor for all of my classes?
Students may schedule tutors for a maximum of three courses.
- There is no tutor offered for my course...
Be sure to do a search in TutorTrac anyway. If the search produces no results, fill out the CLT TutorTrac Help Form (linked on TutorTrac's 'no results' page) which will allow you to indicate which course you need a tutor for. If 3 students request tutoring for a course we currently do not offer, CLT will seek out a tutor.
- How much does tutoring cost?
Tutoring is free!
- How do I cancel a tutoring appointment?
To cancel an appointment, login with your PODS username and password to TutorTrac. On the welcome screen a list of upcoming appointments appears. Clicking on the 'X' next to a particular appointment will prompt its cancellation.
- What happens if I cancel an appointment?
CLT requests that if students must cancel an appointment, they do so with a minimum of 24 hours notice. Canceling an appointment with less than 24 hours notice will be considered a missed appointment. Four missed appointments will result in the loss of tutoring privileges. Frequent cancellations will be tracked and students will lose their tutoring privileges.
- What happens if I miss an appointment?
Four missed tutoring appointments will result in the loss of tutoring privileges. Note that failure to sign in at a tutoring appointment or canceling with less than 24 hours notice are each tracked as missed appointments.
- Is there anything I need to do before tutoring?
Be sure to review course material and come prepared with questions.
- When should I sign up for a tutor?
Tutoring is most effective when it is utilized on a regular basis. We highly recommend signing up for a tutor as early as possible, NOT right before a test. CLT tutoring is provided on a recurring weekly basis and is designed to improve overall critical thinking and analytical skills across disciplines; it is not intended to serve as crisis management.
- Is individual tutoring available?
Due to the number of students seeking tutoring, individual tutoring is not available. There are some exceptions for writing tutors and language tutors. Please ask your writing/language tutor for more information.
- Where is CLT located?
CLT is located in the CIW Library.
- How do I become a tutor?
You can apply to be a tutor by completing an application on our website by March 31st. This is the only requirement for becoming a tutor. You will be notified whether or not you have been granted an interview by April 15th.
- Who can I contact with questions?
