This course comprises Module 2 of the Forensic Health Certificate Program.
This module introduces nurses and other health care professionals to issues related to victimization. Content includes: an overview of crime and victimization; defining forensic roles from a victim perspective; challenging situations; vicarious victimization: ethics for victim service providers; cultural competency; theories on victimization; mental health issues; effects of victimization; helping clients with traumatic experiences; working with victims; assessing victim needs and identifying resources; crisis intervention; referral; orders of protection; victim's compensation; victim service systems; developing collaborative relationships; child abuse; child exploitation (Internet abuse, child pornography, child prostitution); intimate partner violence; teen dating abuse; elder abuse; abuse of persons with disabilities; victims of sexual assault; sexual assault forensic examiners; human trafficking; workplace violence; stalking; hate and bias crimes; homicide; drunk driving; terrorism; financial crimes; identify theft; property crimes; and expert witness testimony.
This module provides 45 contact hours of instruction.
