About the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)

The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is a program funded by the State Education Department to increase the number of historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged students in programs that lead to licensure and to careers in scientific, technical and health related fields. At Binghamton University, CSTEP supports students in six disciplines including pre-law, pre-health, engineering, nursing, accounting, and psychology. The program fosters a cooperative learning environment with support services that enhance each student’s academic growth and professional potential.

Eligibility

Technical and scientific expertise can open doors to a broad range of careers. Yet, the number of college students majoring in math and science has been declining, and is especially small among African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and Alaskan Natives. In the coming years, students from historically underrepresented groups who are prepared to do so will enjoy expanded career opportunities in fields of health care, science, and technology, and in the licensed professions.

Binghamton University participates in the New York State Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program to help economically disadvantaged students and underrepresented minorities succeed in their chosen fields. The program fosters a cooperative learning environment with support services that enhance each student’s academic growth and professional potential.

Eligible students must be:

• In good academic standing and enrolled full time in an undergraduate or graduate program
• A New York State resident
• Planning to study in the fields of accounting, engineering, nursing, pre-health, pre-law, or psychology
• Economically disadvantaged (as defined by NYS guidelines) or African American, Latino, Native American, or Alaskan Native
