When a student experiences a hardship and needs temporary financial assistance to cover essential expenses, students may contact the Dean of Students office to discuss resources available on and off campus. On campus, there is help available in the form of short-term loans or grants.
The Binghamton Foundation maintains a short-term emergency loan fund that allows students to borrow up to $500 for a maximum of six weeks. (A small processing fee is charged.) For details or to borrow funds, contact the Binghamton Foundation on the second floor of the Couper Administration Building or at 607-777-4021.
There is also an emergency fund made available through the Office of the Dean of Students that can provide up to $150 to individual students enrolled at Binghamton University who are experiencing unforeseen financial difficulties. These funds can be used for situations such as medical emergencies or unexpected travel during a family crisis. To apply for these funds, complete the Financial Assistance Request Form and submit it to the Office of the Dean of Students in UUW-205, via e-mail at dos@binghamton.edu or by fax to 607-777-6486.
If you become aware of a crisis or emergency that is affecting students or others, call University Police (911 from campus phone, or 607-777-2393). The Campus Emergency Response Plan can also be found on the web.
If you become aware of a student mental-health emergency, contact the University Counseling Service at 607-777-2772. For urgent situations that occur after business hours, University Police will dispatch resources as needed.
