Academic A

What is Discovery?

The Discovery Program focuses on providing academic support and improving retention. Our mission is to help students successfully transition into and throughout their undergraduate experience while maximizing their academic potential. Our staff consists of professionals and a select group of student assistants. Through a proactive approach, Discovery reaches out to students and provides a link to essential support services and extra-curricular opportunities.

Our philosophy is simple: the best way to reach students is through other BU students. The Discovery student assistants - Discovery Advisors (DAs) - serve as a first step for students to acquire academic guidance, gain knowledge about the resources available on campus, and learn how to effectively improve in time management, study techniques, and note-taking skills. DAs help students begin to explore majors as well as assist students with learning about experiential education opportunities and potential careers. DAs link students with campus services, faculty and advisors. In addition, DAs work closely with the tutoring services provided through the Center for Learning and Teaching. One of the highlights of Discovery’s services is that our DAs have flexible hours and are available daytime, evening and weekends to accommodate students’ busy schedules.

What are Discovery’s Services?

Discovery aims to help guide students in the exploration of their many academic and career interests. The services under Discovery are: 1) Discovery Advisors (peer academic advisors), 2) Discovery Centers, 3) Early Warning System for mid-semester grades, 4) Mentor Advising Connection Program for transfer students on academic probation, 5) Get in the Zone to Maximizing Students' Academic and Wellness Potential Street Outreach Initiative, and 6) The Academic Advising and Scheduling Fest

Why Get Involved With Discovery?

The Discovery Program helps you make a successful transition from high school to college. Our professional staff and student assistants can help you establish a strong academic and social network that begins your freshman year and continues throughout your college years.
