Laura Olisewski is a clinical instructor at the Decker School of Nursing. A nurse since she was 18, she started out as a candy striper and then worked as a nurses aide while studying to become an LPN through BOCES while in high school.
Olisewski went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in nursing from Hartwick College, in Oneonta, NY. While attending Hartwick, she was the president of the Nursing Student Association (NSA) of New York state.
Olisewski continued her nursing education earning a Master of Science degree with a major in community health nursing from Binghamton University in 2003. She currently practices as a home care nurse in Scranton, PA, but is licensed to practice in both New York and Pennsylvania.
Several of her many recreational interests include motorcycling, skiing, listening to her IPOD and traveling. She also has two young daughters and two miniature schnauzers named Roofus and Ralphie. For four years, Olisewski was the site coordinator and rider coach for the PA Motorcycle Safety Program at the Tobyhanna Army Depot and was certified to test and grant motorcycle licenses to qualified PA residents. She also volunteers her time with the Patriot Guard and other veteran's support groups.
"What I love most about nursing is how we can empower people through education to make better choices, which helps them to improve their lives," said Olisewski. "I also believe that nursing has taught me to make the most of every day and not to take each day we are given for granted."
