Graduates of the program in gerontological nursing acquire an in-depth understanding of normal aging, the illnesses that are common to this age group, and an understanding of how the environment impinges on function. They are prepared to provide advanced nursing care to well elders, acutely and chronically ill elders, and frail older persons in community or institutional settings.
