BS to PhD

The purpose of the BS to PhD program is to prepare nurse scholars whose focus is research and scholarship in the delivery of health care to rural residents and/or other vulnerable populations. Graduates of the program will be able to study significant issues in nursing and generate theory which will extend the knowledge base of nursing for those populations. Program plans are individualized to meet each student's academic goals and program requirements. Students may opt to have a Masters degree awarded along the way to the PhD.  Additional course work may be required.  Students should work closely with their chair/adviser to assure that they take appropriate coursework.

Utilize computer skills to analyze research data

Utilize theories to support a research agenda in rural nursing

Utilize research skills and processes to evaluate and develop health policy for rural and vulnerable populations

Demonstrate leadership in social, ethical, cultural, economic, and political issues related to rural nursing

Clinical Focus

Clinical Focus courses are individually determined by student & chair and can be taken at either the Masters or Doctoral levels. Typically students complete the clinical (practice) courses for the specialization that supports their research interest (e.g, Family Nursing I, II, and III, but a clinical set of courses could be individually designed with approval of both the faculty adviser and Program Director.  Advanced Practice Role courses (i.e., Educator, Administrator, NP, and CNS) can be added for additional credits.
