Nursing Student Association

Welcome to the Decker School's Nursing Student Association (NSA) web site. Since 1983, the NSA has been a student-run organization whose membership includes all students enrolled in the Decker School of Nursing.

The NSA works to increase student, faculty and staff involvement in its activities. The members help to provide a better understanding of what it truly means to "give and grow as a nurse." NSA membership provides a forum for nursing students to share experiences, collaborate on projects, learn from each other, and provides a network of support with colleagues.

Traditionally, the NSA works to promote and support a variety of health-based organizations. Members participate in many community walks such as the Juvenile Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Relay for Life (American Cancer Society), and Alzheimer's Memory Walks.

Other examples of NSA community service are the collection of food for CHOW (the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse of the Broome County Council of Churches), and the collection of used cell phones, clothes and other materials for SOS, the sole licensed domestic violence and abuse shelter in Broome County. The NSA recently raised money and collected toys for a local child suffering from leukemia and often participates in campus health events such as Red Cross sponsored blood drives.

In celebration of the Decker School's 35th Anniversary (2004-05), members took the opportunity to march in the University's Homecoming '04 Mardi Gras parade. At the end of each academic year, the annual NSA banquet takes place where all members and the nursing school community come together to celebrate and wish graduating seniors farewell.

The NSA wishes you luck as you begin your educational journey to the nursing profession. We welcome you to the Decker School and to membership in the NSA.
