Heather Hubeny, LMSW, CEAP

Heather holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Binghamton University and an MSW from Marywood University. She holds national certification as an employee assistance professional through the Employee Assistance Professionals Association. Heather has been in the mental health and human services field for more than 19 years. In addition to Binghamton University's Employee Assistance Program, Heather has been employed as a behavior management specialist, school social worker, clinical counselor and an education law paralegal and advocate. In addition to her part-time employment with Binghamton University, Heather currently works as behavior management consultant in the Broome County area. Her areas of expertise include behavior management, traumatic grief and loss, family issues, critical incident stress management, special education advocacy and anxiety/depression issues.

Mary Ellen holds a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Oneonta State College and a master's degree in counseling and human development from St. Lawrence University. She worked as a school guidance counselor for 14+ years before joining EAP at Binghamton University. Mary Ellen's areas of interest and expertise include children and family issues, legal referrals, mental health counseling, and physical health and wellness initiatives.

EAP Committee

The EAP Committee is composed of University union and administrative area representatives who oversee the Employee Assistance Program. Learn more about the EAP Committee.

Location and Directions

There are two EAP offices located across campus.  Mary Ellen Niefer is located on the ground floor level of the Library in LSG 673 (Directions from on-campus and off-campus). Heather Hubeny is located in the Chenango-Champlain Collegiate Center (C4) in room 115. (Directions from on-campus and off-campus)

Please make an appointment to see an EAP coordinator for assessment and referral counseling services. The EAP office also has a lending library; to request materials from the library, please contact the EAP office at 607-777-6655/6650 or hhubeny@binghamton.edu or mniefer@binghamton.edu.
