Community Support Groups 

Bereavement Support Groups

Group Leader: Sarah Hopkins, MSW, Bereavement Counselor
Location: Lourdes Hospice Office, 4102 Old Vestal Rd., Vestal, NY

Lourdes Hospice offers bereavement support groups open to the community for adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one within the past two years. The loss does not have to have been through Lourdes Hospice care. Lourdes Hospice offers an eight-week bereavement support group with an educational component as well as ongoing support to group members. To attend the eight-week bereavement support group, registration and a commitment to attend all eight weeks is required. Call Sarah E. The Compassionate Friends, Broome County Chapter

Depressive and Bi-Polar Support Group

This is a peer support group aimed at helping members develop a better understanding of manic and depressive disorders. Family and friends welcome. 

Those Left Behind

Binghamton General Hospital offers a monthly support group for survivors of suicide (people who have lost a loved one to suicide) called, Those Left Behind. The group is free and open to the community. For further information, call 762-2887 (a recording of group information).

Family Support Group

In addition, UHS division of behavioral health runs a Family Support Group for family members who have a loved one with mental illness. This group meets every Wednesday from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in the private dining room on level G at Binghamton General Hospital. No pre-registration is required for these groups.
