Research centers

Our researchers in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering work in collaboration across the department, with faculty from other disciplines at Binghamton University and with colleagues from across the nation and around the world. Some of our collaborative research is conducted under the umbrella of research centers, including:  

• The Center for Advanced Information Technologies specializes in researching trends within the broad scope of disciplines known as advanced information technologies and information assurance. These disciplines include information security systems, steganography and digital watermarking, cryptology, access control, authentication and authorization, intrusion/malicious code detection, information attack mitigation, multi-agent systems, biologically-inspired methods in network security, satellite communication networks, laser communication and biometrics.         Video

• The Center for Autonomous Solar Power, the latest addition to Binghamton University’s New York State Center of Excellence in Small Scale Systems Integration and Packaging (S3IP), focuses on tapping into the sun’s immense supply of renewable energy to make it easily accessible as a flexible, large-area and low-cost power source. This multidisciplinary center draws expertise from engineering, computer science, chemistry and physics to focus on areas such as solar conversion efficiency, storage capabilities, solar module stability and power system cost reduction.
