Reporting an Emergency

Binghamton University provides a several ways to report emergency conditions on university property. All emergency calls are answered by the New York State University Police 24 hours per day. The emergency dispatcher will determine the nature of the emergency and dispatch appropriate emergency services.

Regardless of the nature of the emergency, you should use one of the following methods to request assistance:

From an on-campus phone:

• Dial 911 from any on-campus phone to reach an emergency dispatcher.

From an off-campus (cell) phone:

• Dial (607) 777-2222 from any non-campus (cell) phone to reach an emergency dispatcher. Any 911 calls by an off-campus phone will be directed to the Broome County 911 Dispatch Center. The call-taker will contact University Police after determining the emergency information from you.

From a Blue Light Phone:

• Binghamton University maintains a network of “Blue Light” emergency phones. Each yellow emergency-phone box is attached to a light pole or building. A blue light, easily seen at night, hangs over each box. To report an incident, just open the box and pick up the receiver.
