Made possible through the generosity of Dr. Andrew Bergman '64, the Andrew Bergman Award in Creative Writing is presented to a Harpur College student who excels in creative writing. Award recipients are selected based on the results of a writing competition, which is stewarded by the Creative Writing Program, Harpur College Dean's Office and the Binghamton University Foundation.

Andrew Bergman earned his bachelors degree in History with honors from Harpur College in 1965, and earned his master's and Ph.D. in American History from the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Bergman was an honorary degree recipient and keynote speaker at the 1994 Commencement ceremony at Binghamton University.
Dr. Bergman is best known for his screenplays for such films as Blazing Saddles (1994), Fletch (1985), and Soapdish (1991). His directing credits include The Freshman (1991) and Honeymoon in Vegas (1992). He is the author of several books including Sleepless Nights (1994).
Attach to the top of each submission a cover sheet with the student's name and B number. The student's name should not appear on their creative work. Please keep a copy of your original submission. Papers will not be returned.
A panel of Harpur College faculty will review all submissions and will select a winner by March 1, 2013.
