AWP Intro Journals Project
Internal Application Deadline: October 30 by 2 p.m.
The Intro Journals Project is a literary competition for the discovery & publication of the best new works by students currently enrolled in the programs of Associated Writing Programs.
Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible.
Submissions must be nominated by the program. Here at Binghamton nominations are determined through an open competition.
Winners receive an award letter, publication in a participating journal, and a $100 cash honorarium.
Winning works will appear in Hayden's Ferry Review, Mid-American Review, Puerto del Sol, Colorado Review, Quarterly West, Tampa Review, and Artful Dodge.
Our program is eligible to nominate no more than one work of nonfiction, one work of short fiction, and three poems.
TO SELECT THE WORK NOMINATED FROM OUR PROGRAM,
we will conduct an internal competition with a
DEADLINE of OCTOBER 30 at 2 pm
Please follow guidelines below for submitting work for consideration:
- Each prose nomination should have two title pages as follows: the first should include the title, GENRE if the piece is prose (by genre I mean fiction or creative nonfiction), author's name, permanent address, phone number, and name and address of the member writing program; the second should include the title only. For poetry, the internal contest entries can just title each poem and include one title page with the titles of all poems submitted (one to three) and the full contact information as above. Your name should not appear on the page with any poem. Once program entries have been selected, the poems being submitted to AWP will need to be formatted with the two title pages as described for prose.
- The author's name should not appear on the manuscript except on the first title page.
- Prose must be double-spaced and typed or printed on a letter-quality printer. Dot matrix is not acceptable. Poetry only may be single-spaced.
- Translations are acceptable, but it is the translator's responsibility to secure publication rights.
- Nominated works must be unpublished and may not be under consideration elsewhere for the duration of the contest.
- Excerpts from novels are acceptable but prose submissions of all kinds (including nonfiction) must not exceed 25 pages.
- A student who has won at the national level in any given year is not eligible to enter the contest for the next two years.
To be considered for nomination from the program, submit your entry to the Creative Writing Program mailbox (lower left hand corner box in the boxes over the bookcase just inside the door to the English Office) prior to the October 30 at 2 pm deadline.
