Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society (XAE)

Founded at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) National Honor Society was formed to recognize the academic achievements of students admitted to colleges and universities through Opportunity Programs. Its purposes are to promote continued high academic standards, foster increased communication among its members, and honor academic excellence. Membership in Chi Alpha Epsilon requires a 3.0 or better for two consecutive semesters, and is offered through Binghamton University’s Gamma Delta chapter.

On February 7, 2004, Binghamton University’s Educational Opportunity Program held a chartering and induction ceremony. At this first induction ceremony, the academic achievements of 41 students were recognized. Honorary inductees were Robert James, Associate Vice Provost for Opportunity Programs, State University of New York and Rodger Summers, Vice President for Student Affairs. Dr. Elbert Saddler, founder of Chi Alpha Epsilon, was the guest speaker.

All future induction ceremonies will be held each fall. Eligible students will receive a letter in the fall semester indicating their eligibility for the National Honor Society. For more information regarding Chi Alpha Epsilon, please contact Vanessa N. Young, XAE Advisor, or Dr. James H. Pogue, EOP Director, located at the EOP Office, SW 233, or call 777-2791.

The sixth annual Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society Leadership Conference in Toledo, Ohio was great. This year's conference honored not only Chi Alpha Epsilon's members, but it also celebrated our "S/Heroes," individuals who have overcome different struggles and have triumphed as students. Their personal stories inspired all attendees to remain confident in their abilities and roles to be models for others in their journey for an education. Aside from this, I enjoyed meeting other XAE members, especially one of the founders of the honor society and the national executive board. The conference also offered students networking opportunities with educators, directors and other officials in higher education or in other professions. In some ways, we all walked away from this experience as a "S/hero."
